Belgium national team is one of 32 qualified teams competing in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The squad, under the global jurisdiction of FIFA, represents Belgium at international competitions and is governed in Europe by UEFA. Nicknamed Die Roten Teufel(The Red Devils), it reached the end stages of twelve FIFA World Cups and five UEFA European Football Championships, and won the 1920 Olympic tournament. The team plays most of home games at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, opened on 23 August 1930.
To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the stadium the Belgian state released a commemorative coin: the 10 euro 75 years of Heysel Stadium commemorative coin. An image of a footballer with the stadium is included in this coin. The flags of Belgium and the Netherlands and the year that the stadium was built can also be seen on top of the stadium.
Christian Benteke is a professional striker who plays for Belgium national team and an English club Crystal Palace.
Benteke played three games at 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup and scored once for the Belgium U-17 team. He made his senior debut for the national team in a friendly match against Bulgaria on 19 May 2010. He scored his first national goal on 15 August 2012. After that, Benteke became a regular starter of the Belgium national team. He scored twice during qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. However, he couldn’t continue to play games in the 2014 World Cup because he was injured. Benteke returned and played for his country at the UEFA Euro 2016. Besides, the young player created a record for the fastest goal in a World Cup match.
He began his football career at Standard Liège, then transferred to Aston Villa with a transfer fee £7 million. Benteke totally appeared in 100 matches and scored 49 goals for Villa before transferring to Liverpool in 2015. Currently he plays for Crystal Palace and has scored a few goals until now. This excellent young player was named Premier League Player of the Month in April 2015.
